option that seems feasible, is a 3 stage paint job. Lay down the factory base color of red, followed by tinted clear with metallic mixed into the clear, then clear over that. It's supposed to be a very subtle change. I was told it looks about the same in the shade, but pops more in the sun, because the metallic particles catch the sunlight. So I am considering that. So I think I am going to shoot a few test shots on an old hood, to see what it looks like. I am going to buy the factory red, & clear, just like I was painting it the factory color (which I may end up doing in the end if the metallic tests don't look good). But I will get a small amount of the clear mixed with metallic, for a test. I'll lay down one coat of the metallic clear on one test shot, & two coats on the next. Just to see what amount of metallic looks best, if any does. Then just for the hell of it, I am going to do a 3rd test with red, followed by one thin coat of pearl, and then clear on top of the pearl, just to see what it looks like. I think I have some pearl left over from when I painted my 08 navigator a few months ago. If I do, that part will be free.
